About
In 1897 England, sixteen-year-old Finley Jayne has no one…except the "thing" inside her.
When a young lord tries to take advantage of Finley, she fights back. And wins. But no normal Victorian girl has a darker side that makes her capable of knocking out a full-grown man with one punch….
Review
Where to start, when describing a book that took my breath away? From the first page, i was hooked, Kady Cross's writing pulling me in, making me feel like i was in her steampunk fantasy, in Victorian London. Considering Kady Cross is American, it must have been somewhat difficult to create this story in London, especially in a Victiorian era. The way of speaking, the scenery are so important and to be portrayed wrongly would have spoiled the novel. However, Kady Cross does herself proud, including all the little things, like the language, using nothing less than what would be expected of the era. We are introduced to a rather feisty character, Finley, who seems to have gotten herself into a situation that only her darker side can get her out of. Not even she knows the extent of the secrets within herself, not knowing that they will bring her into other situations. But then she stumbles upon a group of friends, who take her in and help her find herself. The characters are very solid, each standing out and described with detail that makes you visualise them and come to think of them as real people. Kady Cross's writing is beautiful, having me wanting more. This story has everything you want, action, which is described so vividly. Excitement, that has you wanting to read more. Romance, love blooming between the characters. Humor and normality, which makes you smile and laugh. Really, it stirs every emotion, which is what i believe makes an excellent book. And that's just what this is.
